The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has unveiled a new program to develop a new software for real-time logistics and supply chain monitoring in support of military operations across the world.

The LogX program will work with legacy systems that currently support the Department of Defense’s Joint Logistics Enterprise in providing status of all stocked or shipped military parts, supplies and equipment, DARPA said Tuesday.

The software will assist personnel in confirming which military supplies are already in stock (diagnosis), and predict which equipment will have to be replaced (prognosis), with the aim of maximum efficiency between the vast amount of departments and units that comprise DOD.

“DARPA is exploring the flexibility of systems that can be composed by operators to meet varying mission needs as part of its Mosaic Warfare concept, which moves the enterprise from one that is ‘built to order’ with long response times and low flexibility to an agile ‘assemble to order model,’” said John Paschkewitz, program manager at DARPA Strategic Technology Office.

“This shift will require profound changes in inventory management, positioning, and logistics information awareness beyond the obvious changes in weapons systems and tactics.”

Because of this overhaul, DARPA seeks vendors with expertise in logistics optimization systems, and plans to host a proposers day on June 11 in Arlington, Va.
