Victor Vega, director of emerging solutions for Cubic’s GATR Technologies subsidiary, said the business has transformed from an antenna supplier to a satellite communications provider that can support command-and-control activity in disaster recovery missions, Second Line of Defense reported Thursday.

GATR, which Cubic acquired in late 2015, has worked with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief organizations such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which deployed the company's prototype satcom antennas to help families communicate with each other in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

The U.S. Army also used GATR technology to conduct exercises in network-deprived environments.

GATR satcom terminals are designed to support data and voice trasnmissions, high-bandwidth communications and IP-enabled operations in Ku-, Ka-, C- and X-band frequencies.
