Chenega Corp.'s healthcare services subsidiary and MedCognition will collaborate on a project to develop augmented reality-based training modules for trauma care in the military sector.
MedCognition said Tuesday it will utilize the PerSim patient simulator technology to help educate U.S. Army clinicians about managing tactical combat and mass casualty incidents through simulation as part of a one-year technology development contract valued at $750K.
PerSim is designed to work with Microsoft's HoloLens mixed-reality device and project real-life patient environments in simulated training sessions. The system offers trainees access to a range of clinical simulations, from respiratory illnesses to minor injuries.
“Experiential learning is a cornerstone of providing quality patient care and potentially preventing medical errors, especially in a frantic and stressful environment like pre-hospital,†said Kevin King, CEO of MedCognition and a U.S. Army combat veteran physician.
"This contract expands our capabilities into military medicine and battlefield care, with the hope that this could help save the lives of critically ill and injured soldiers," King added.
