Boeing aims to deliver 18 KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling aircraft to the U.S. Air Force by the end of next month as part of a contract to supply 36 tankers during 2019, Flightglobal reported Wednesday.
The Air Force has received eight KC-46As and could accept an additional three units by Friday.
The Chicago-based company holds certifications for KC-46A operation with nine aircraft and aims to achieve refueling authorization for the EC-130 electronic warfare aircraft, the MV-22 Osprey titlrotor plane and the C-5 Galaxy military transport aircraft.
The Air Force conducted its first KC-46A refueling test flight with an F-35A jet in February ahead of the tanker’s initial operational refueling of F-16 fighter jets that concluded last week.
