Vivian Smith, a principal research scientist at Battelle, has received the 2019 Dr. Billy Richardson Young Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Researcher Award from the NBC Industry Group.
The award validates Smith's efforts in the recognition of young leaders in the NBC defense industry, Battelle said Thursday.
Smith joined Battelle in 2016 as a subject matter expert in biosafety and biosecurity. She is currently assisting the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in the delivery of safe scientific practices to Vietnam, where she has shared her biosecurity and biosafety knowledge with more than 100 Vietnamese scientific personnel.
Prior to joining the technology company, she contributed to the creation of biosafety programs and established biocontainment protocol at laboratories across the U.S. during her fellowship with the National Institutes of Health.
“Vivian’s entire career has been devoted to advancing the field of nuclear, biological, and chemical defense so I am thrilled to see her accomplishments honored in this way,†said Scott Robinson, a senior market manager at Battelle and recently-installed Chairman of the NBC Industry Group.
