Axon has launched two artificial intelligence and data analytics-driven tools designed to help streamline and automate manual monitoring procedures for law enforcement personnel.

The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based tech firm said Tuesday its AI-based Redaction Assistant platform can detect details such as faces and license plates from officers' body camera footage to simplify video redaction procedures and rapidly disseminate the data to the public.

In a separate announcement, the company noted that its Axon Performance tool uses data analytics to streamline performance evaluation processes as well as menial functions such as body camera activation monitoring and video footage categorization.

The analytics platform simplifies body camera monitoring through integrated computer-aided dispatch logs, enables supervisors to measure performance in real time via a Mobile Data Terminal and helps officers quickly identify needs for training and corrective actions.

"We are proud of the work that agencies have done in implementing body-worn cameras, bringing more transparency to their communities,” noted Rick Smith, CEO and founder of Axon.

The company coordinated with the AI and Policing Technology Ethics Board to develop Redaction Assistant and has already deployed the tool to U.S., Canada and U.K. agencies.

Axon Performance is already being used in the U.S. and will be available to international agencies by the first half of 2020.
