Zscaler’s Stephen Kovac Calls for Trusted Internet Connections 3.0 Platform Certification Process

Stephen Kovac, vice president of global government and compliance at Zscaler, wrote in a commentary piece published Monday on FCW that the federal government should advance a certification process for platforms under the updated Trusted Internet Connections 3.0 policy.

The White House issued in December a draft of the TIC 3.0 policy, which would require the Department of Homeland Security to come up with use cases for how federal agencies can ensure the security of internet connections.

“The process should be shared among agency CIOs so that what one agency approves should be available to others,” Kovac wrote.

“It is important to store these approved concepts in a catalog of use cases so they can be used across multiple agencies, ultimately creating a better TIC solution with reduced cost and improved customer experience for users across government.”

Kovac discussed the concept of a cloud-based virtualized TIC and called on agencies to share their TIC 3.0 platforms through a “centralized, government-managed repository.”

“Agencies must be able to compare their security requirements to those in the repository, to review the most viable options,” he added.
