The National Nuclear Security Administration issued a FedBizOpps notice Thursday to announce its plan to award a contract to Mitre to provide logistics and management support to a scientific advisory panel called Jason, Defense News reported Thursday.
Jason is a group of engineers and scientists who advise NNSA and the U.S. government on sensitive matters related to science and technology. The panel has also helped NNSA maintain a reliable and secure nuclear stockpile and prevent the global proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Gregory Wolf, a spokesman for NNSA, told the publication the sole-source contract will run through Jan. 31, 2020.
Wolf noted that NNSA considers three studies that it plans to carry out with the Jason panel and those are related to plutonium aging, nuclear detonation detection and cybersecurity of operating equipment.
