NASA has issued an updated pre-solicitation notice for its lunar lander program that seeks new spacecraft designed to bring humans back to the moon’s surface by 2024.Â
The space agency released the document on Friday via a FedBizOpps notice that details the expanded scope of the Human Landing System program. Â
NASA seeks to build an integrated lander with multiple elements, such as descent and ascent elements and a transfer vehicle.Â
The final solicitation for the program is expected to be released in late May under the second Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships broad agency announcement.
The document will call on industry to submit proposals for the development of the lunar landers and crewed flight demonstrations on the lunar surface by 2024.
Each contract will run in multiple phases, including design, development, test and evaluation of lander elements.
