Microsoft has unveiled two new data center regions of the Azure Government Secret cloud platform designed to host secret-level classified workloads and ensure access to mission-critical information.

Lily Kim, Azure Global general manager, wrote in a blog post published Wednesday the two new regions are 500 miles away from each other and are in private preview and pending accreditation built with additional controls to meet compliance and regulatory requirements for the Intelligence Community Directive 503 and DoD Impact Level 6 accreditation.

The company also teamed up with the Department of Defense to expand the Impact Level 5 provisional authorization to all Azure Government regions, providing clients access to additional platform-as-a-service features and services at IL5.

“This expanded range of PaaS services means mission owners can leverage managed services to be more productive,” Kim noted.

Kim announced the launch of a free service, Azure Blueprints, meant to help clients update and field cloud environments using deployment templates, policies, role-based access controls and other composable artifacts.
