Vulcan has subscribed to Maxar Technologies’ cloud-based EarthWatch platform for geospatial data streaming.
The multiyear subscription will allow Vulcan’s Domain Awareness Systems team to view, stream and download optical satellite data to support the development of technologies for multiple projects, Maxar said Wednesday.
Paul Granito, vice president of global sales at Maxar, said the company seeks to protect savannah and marine environments as well as the livelihood of millions of people through the partnership.
“By combining our technology with EarthWatch, we’ll deliver actionable insight into the hands of decision makers faster so they can make choices with confidence to create societal and environmental benefits here on Earth,†said Art Min, VP of impact at Vulcan.
Maxar noted potential initiatives that could benefit from the subscription include anti-poaching operations, reef preservation, power distirbution and detection of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen established Vulcan in 1986 to manage his philanthropic and business activities.
