Lockheed Martin is in discussions with Israeli Aerospace Industries' Elta Systems subsidiary to jointly develop a radar technology for an upcoming U.S. Army demonstration event at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, Defense News reported Saturday.
The report said the Army chose Elta as one of several companies that can participate in the competitive event and demonstrate "sense off" platforms for potential integration into the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Radar System.
A Lockheed spokesperson told Defense News that both companies identified complementing mature technologies to support the program.
The service branch intends to procure six prototypes from one vendor by the end of fiscal 2022.
Raytheon emerged in February as a participant in the sense-off competition that could take place within the next two months.
