Lockheed Martin has chosen 200 scholarship recipients through a program that aims to help underrepresented or underserved students pursue computer science and engineering degrees.
The company said Monday the scholars were selected out of 6,333 applicants for its first-ever STEM Scholarship Program, funded by the firm's tax-reform proceeds and investment efforts.
Students will receive up to $10K annually over four school years or until they earn a bachelor's degree. They also have the opportunity to land a paid internship at Lockheed.
The aerospace and defense firm added that it plans to increase the number of scholarship recipients to 1K and the amount of funds to $10M per year.
Application period for the next iteration of the program will reopen in January.
