Executive Mosaic is pleased to introduce John Vollmer, president of management services at AECOM, as an inductee into the 2019 edition of Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of influential leaders in the government contracting arena — for securing several major contracts in 2018 and supporting the company’s growth.

This latest honor marks the fourth Wash100 award for Vollmer.

The company’s management services group received a potential seven-year, $961 million contract to help the U.S. Air Force maintain and operate remote pilot aircraft in May 2018. In an interview with ExecutiveBiz, Vollmer discussed the role of unmanned aerial systems in the federal government.

“We’re at an exciting time where unmanned aerial systems technology is growing beyond just traditional military use,” he said. “From homeland security to firefighting, infrastructure inspection to environmental assessment, the value of UAS employment continues to increase.”

Vollmer also talked about the challenges facing federal agencies in cybersecurity and the market opportunities AECOM is pursuing. Those include investments in supply chain management and contingency operations practices, pursuit of commercial reactor decontamination and decommissioning and efforts to grow its intelligence analysis practice.

In addition to the UAS deal, AECOM secured spots on other major contracts in 2018 such as the potential $970 million contract to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s cooperative threat reduction program and a five-year, $475 million contract to help the U.S. Agency for International Development build public financial management systems for developing countries.

The company also landed a position on a potential nine-year, $28 billion contract from the Defense Department for technology research and development services in August 2018.

“This contract vehicle provides great flexibility to DoD and other departments’ ability to anticipate and respond to current and future threats to our national security,” Vollmer said.

AECOM is working to improve its supply chain management through a partnership with IFS and by adopting the IFS applications software suite.

“Through the implementation of dynamic supply-chain technology, AECOM will help our clients achieve performance excellence and maximize their opportunities,” Vollmer stated. “Our clients will realize increased value and savings through robust automation, significantly improved response times, reductions in inventory levels and planned on-time deliveries.”

Vollmer joined AECOM following the company’s $4 billion acquisition of URS in 2014. He served as executive vice president of operations for the federal services arm for five years. Vollmer leads his team offering technical and management services to U.S. federal agencies and governments worldwide.

Executive Mosaic congratulates John Vollmer and the AECOM team for receiving this award.
