Idemia has launched a new wireless device designed to help law enforcement officers verify identities via fingerprint biometrics.

The company said Friday its new RapID X1 handheld tool combines sunlight and dust-resistant image capture, a FAP 30 FBI PIV-certified fingerprint sensor and LTE connectivity into a single mobile platform.

"We have engineered our RapID X1 to address real-world field environments and situations law enforcement personnel face every day," said Donnie Scott, senior vice president of public security for IDEMIA's North America operations.

The device is made to boost the safety of mobile identification operations and complies with regulations imposed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
