Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division has concluded acceptance trials for a new national security cutter for the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Midgett, or WMSL 757, underwent two days of testing involving the ship's propulsion, electrical, damage control, anchor-handling, small boat operations and combat systems in the Mexican Gulf, the company said Wednesday.
The U.S. Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey was present during the trials of the Legend-class security cutter.
The Midgett is scheduled for delivery before the end of 2019, following the delivery of seven Legend-class ships. The company will also build two more security cutters under contracts jointly valued at $931M.
