HTX Labs will continue to develop training simulators based on virtual reality technology under a Small Business Innovation Research Phase I contract from the U.S. Air Force.

The company said Tuesday it aims to create simulations with the EMPACT Virtual Reality platform designed to help trainees gain knowledge of military processes and protocols.

The SBIR contract also provides HTX an opportunity to further develop an immersive technology to assess training programs through analytics, artificial intelligence and biometrics.

The Air Force previously tapped the company for VR-based program deployment efforts as part of the branch's Pilot Training Next initiative, which evaluated the ability of student pilots to implement emergency procedures as they performed missions on a Beechcraft T-6A trainer aircraft.

According to HTX, the Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX organization collaborate to simplify the SBIR contracting process.
