DHS Solicits Mobile Comm Network Security Tech Proposals; Christopher Krebs Quoted - top government contractors - best government contracting event

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a solicitation for novel technologies and methods designed to protect mobile communications networks from threats.

DHS said Monday a broad agency announcement published on FedBizOpps involves a research-and-development project focused on Secure and Resilient Mobile Network Infrastructure.

“The deployment of 5G technologies offers opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and economic growth, but it may also present risks we’re not currently positioned to manage,” said Christopher Krebs, director of DHS’ Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and a 2019 Wash100 winner.

“This BAA solicitation and SRMNI R&D will help DHS work with industry to identify threats and vulnerabilities to mobile network infrastructure, and inform the development and adoption of security standards,” Krebs added.

The solicitation has three technical topic areas: 2G, 3G and 4G network protections; integration of security into 5G networks and end-to-end protection of network traffic; and novel approaches to enhance government network traffic visibility into mobile devices.

The department’s science and technology directorate and CISA will host a joint industry day May 16 to discuss the BAA.

DHS said it will accept proposals through June 26 and announce the selected offers Sept. 24.
