Cisco is helping the U.S. Air Force explore new cloud-based security technologies to protect military data from artificial intelligence-based cyber attacks, Warrior Maven reported Thursday.

Sean Frazier, federal chief information security officer at Cisco’s Duo security business, told the publication that the company seeks to utilize “zero trust” cybersecurity for the Air Force. 

The report said such approach uses multilayered authentication procedures that could block automated attacks that use algorithms generating 1K attacks per minute.

“Zero-trust network means not trusting anything inherently and, for instance, not trusting traffic just because it comes from a particular network,” Frazier said.

Aside from safe access, a multimode authentication can also provide airmen with technical flexibility to keep up with changing digital threats. The verification process may include biometrics, thumb prints, messaging, texting or security questions, Frazier noted.

Cisco is currently working on the Air Force’s Mission Mobility project along with other industry members, including Amazon and Apple. 

The project aims to increase how the service can use commercial cloud platforms to address newer types of threat.
