Boeing has chosen Curtiss-Wright's defense solutions business to provide data technology systems for integration into the MQ-25 Stingray tanker drone.

Curtiss-Wright said Tuesday it will add technicians and engineers to carry out work in support of the U.S. Navy's unmanned aerial refueling program.

The service branch awarded Boeing an $805.3M engineering and manufacturing development contract in August of last year to build four carrier-based tankers.

“The MQ-25 program is vital because it will help the U.S. Navy extend the range of the carrier air wing,” said Dave Bujoid, MQ-25 program director at Boeing.

The Chicago-based aerospace and defense contractor expects the aircraft to reach initial operational capability in 2024.
