BAE Systems has introduced a software-defined radio technology with multiple transceiver channels designed to facilitate on-orbit reprogramming and signals processing for military or commercial spacecraft platforms.
The SDR system uses a modifiable SpaceVPX architecture that can host third-party algorithms and hardware to support various applications such as weather and radio frequency sensing, BAEÂ said Monday.
The radio is fitted with field-programmable gate array-based transceivers and the RAD5545 single-board computer based on a radiation-hardened system-on-chip processor.
Ricardo Gonzalez, director of space systems at BAE, said the radio is designed to help customers reprogram spacecraft for multiple missions.
Production of SDR assemblies at the company’s facilities in Manassas, Va., and Merrimack, N.H.
