Voyager Maritime Alliance Group has collaborated with Simrad Yachting to install a navigation system on the lead guided missile destroyer ship of the U.S. Navy's Zumwalt class.
The industry team equipped USS Zumwalt with the Radar, Automatic Identification Systems suite and digital displays in efforts increase operational awareness when the vessel is close to civilian traffic, VMAG said Thursday.
David Leone, president of VMAG, said the system is designed to help the AIR, radar and autopilot controller share and view navigational data in a digital format.
The design, concept development and installation project took three weeks to complete at the San Diego naval base.
VMAG also completed tests of the installed equipment and began a formal training program for the ship's crew.
