US Marshals Service Issues RFI for Cryptocurrency Storage, Disposal Contract - top government contractors - best government contracting event

The U.S. Marshals Service within the Department of Justice has issued a request for information from potential vendors that could store and dispose of millions of dollars worth of confiscated cryptocurrency, Nextgov reported Friday.

The Marshals said in the RFI posted Tuesday on FedBizOpps the contract will provide the full range of virtual currency management and disposal services, including accounting, customer management, audit compliance, managing blockchain forks, wallet creation and converting token assets into cash.

The contractor should also be able to hack and give marshals access into digital wallets “locked by error or technical difficulties.”

The service said it will not provide a detailed scope of the contract since it could not predict the quantities of cryptocurrencies the service might confiscate during the contract period.

“The contractor shall remain capable of taking custody of all types and quantities of virtual currency without limitation, throughout the performance of this contract,” the RFI states. “This includes both coin and token types of currency.”

Contracting officials said the award is expected to have an initial period of performance of one year, with two one-year add-on options.

Interested parties may submit responses to the RFI through March 19.
