Communications firm Transition Networks has unveiled a new series of media converters designed to protect data for military, government and financial organizations.
The company said Monday its Mini Gigabit Ethernet Unidirectional Media Converters regulate the flow of data to a single direction on network links.
The converters operate in pairs to convert and receive data from different ends, allowing for connection between networks of different security types and establishing a layer that regulates the entry and exit of data to and from a secure network.
The converters, measuring 1.8 inches wide, 3.3 inches deep and 0.85 inch high, are designed to work with small form-factor pluggable modules that comply with the Multisource Agreement industry standard.
“Physical-layer unidirectional media converters provide a cost-effective, plug-and-play solution that is not susceptible to the cyber-attacks often associated with software-based encrypted solutions,” said Curt Carlson, product manager for Transition Networks. “And they allow institutions to create a channel to transmit this data that doesn’t violate the secure nature of the network.”
