NVIDIA’s Anthony Robbins: Executive Order Calls for Government to Take Leadership Role in AI Efforts

Anthony Robbins, vice president for the North American public sector at NVIDIA, said the new White House executive order on artificial intelligence seeks to recognize the capability of AI and the government’s role in advancing AI adoption to ensure the security and prosperity of citizens.

Robbins, a 2019 Wash100 winner, wrote in a Nextgov article published Thursday how AI could help improve health care, cybersecurity, transportation, disaster relief, defense system sustainment efforts and other initiatives in the public sector.

He noted that the government should lead efforts to advance AI research, development, training and adoption through three areas: data, training and computing infrastructure.

Federal Chief Information Officer Suzette Kent called for the U.S. government to invest in data collection and efforts to make data available to agencies to help them generate insights, he said.

Robbins said the government should initiate measures to train engineers in data science and deep learning and build up the computing infrastructure by modernizing federal, research and university systems to provide engineers with tools to create and implement AI capabilities.

“The private sector needs to be a trusted government partner, working with agencies to help them understand, adopt and deploy AI-enabled computing systems,” he wrote.
