Northrop Grumman has developed a four-layered approach on establishing the company’s edge in the hypersonics market, Defense News reported Wednesday.
Kenn Todorov, Northrop's vice president of missile defense solutions, and Joanna Cangianelli, business development head of the company's missile defense and counter-hypersonics operations, said that Northrop will first work on developing a space-based sensor layer.
Other focus areas that will follow include kinetic interceptors and non-kinetic technologies that span cyber, directed energy and electronic warfare platforms.
The last tier covers command-and-control systems designed to operate future hypersonic offerings.
According to the two executives, Northrop’s acquisition of Orbital ATK has led to significant developments in certain hypersonics-related capabilities.
They declined to provide further technical information on non-kinetic technologies due to competitive reasons.
