Northrop Grumman has delivered a total of 200K units of a sensor designed to detonate general purpose explosives in mid-air.
The company said Thursday it has reached this milestone for the DSU-33 proximity sensor, which began production in 2000 and continued to be produced over the past 18 years.
The U.S. Army, the Air Force, the Marine Corps, the Navy and various foreign allies employ the proximity sensor for combat missions.
Program team members from the Army and USAF joined Northrop employees at the firm's Allegany Ballistics Laboratory to commemorate the milestone. Also present were officials from the U.S. Army’s Joint Program Executive Office for Armaments and Ammunition and the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command.
