Marine Corps Issues Optical Comm Transmission System RFI

The U.S. Marine Corps has issued a request for information on potential sources that could provide a system designed to deliver high-bandwidth transmission capabilities to support video, data and voice communications.

The military service said Tuesday the proposed optical communication transmission system will be part of a complete line-of-sight transmission platform.

Maj. Eric Holmes, project officer at Marine Corps Systems Command, said the service looks to industry to develop and deploy the technology meant to “protect vital command and control emissions from advanced adversaries.”

The planned OCTS platform will be composed of optical communication components, power source, antenna mast, cables and ancillary equipment, according to a FedBizOpps notice.

The RFI states the government security certification, frequency, data throughput, loopback, range, interface and operational and storage temperature range requirements for the proposed OCTS platform.

Interested vendors have until March 19 to submit their responses to the RFI.
