Executive Mosaic is honored to name Marillyn Hewson, chairman, president and CEO of Lockheed Martin, as an inductee into the 2019 Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of the most influential voices in the government contracting arena — for her efforts advancing U.S. technological superiority as well as diversity and education in the technology sector.
This marks the fifth consecutive Wash100 Award for Hewson.
Recognizing her contributions to the government and industry, she ranked first in Fortune magazine’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business list in 2018. In an interview with the publication, Hewson highlighted the importance of enhancing U.S. technological superiority across the air, land, space and cyber domains to address growing threats to the country.
“We expect the governments we do business with will be doing things that are appropriate,†Hewson said. “I am confident that we are working on the right things to keep this nation safe.â€
Hewson shared insight into the important role that partnerships play in global security and how they drive competition, innovation and economic growth.
She attended the Defense Roundtable at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona in October 2018 where President Trump expressed his desire to invest and build up the military to maintain the country’s competitive edge. During the event, Hewson lauded the Trump Administration study on the defense industrial base.
“We look at 2.4M jobs in aerospace and defense and a trade surplus of $86B, and we know it’s important that your study that you commissioned uncovered that we do have fragility in the supply chain; we do have capabilities that we need to bolster,†she said.
Chief Executive Magazine named Hewson 2018 CEO of the Year for promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. The award also recognized her work on diversity in the technology sector.
In addition to her 35 year career with Lockheed, she also serves on the board of directors of DowDuPont, the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, the USO Board of Governors, and the board of directors of Catalyst. She is a member of The University of Alabama’s President’s Cabinet and the Board of Visitors at the Culverhouse College of Business.
Executive Mosaic congratulates Marillyn Hewson and the Lockheed team for their selection to receive this award.
