Executive Mosaic is pleased to announce Leanne Caret, president and CEO of Boeing’s defense, space and security business, as an inductee into the 2019 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of influential leaders in the government contracting arena — for her leadership in expanding the company’s portfolio of defense contracts and space platforms.

This latest honor marks the third consecutive Wash100 Award for Caret.

She took the helm of Boeing’s defense segment in February 2016. She supervises a business that delivers services to meet to requirements of government, defense, intelligence, space and security clients in the U.S. and abroad.

Under her leadership, Boeing’s defense arm won major contracts in 2018 including the Air Force’s $9.2B T-X trainer program in partnership with SAAB and a potential $805.3M engineering and manufacturing development contract for the U.S. Navy’s MQ-25 Stingray unmanned aerial refueler. The T-X trainer contract “is a direct result of our joint investment in developing a system centered on the unique requirements of the U.S. Air Force,” she said.

Caret cited the company’s decision-making process and cost-cutting measures as factors that helped drive its government contract proposals to be more competitive.

“This is the year where the first results from all the steps we have taken will be apparent to everybody,” she told The Wall Street Journal.

In a move to expand its space and satellite platforms portfolio, Boeing completed its acquisition of Millennium Space Systems in September last year. Caret said the company aims to meet the requirements of a diverse client pool through the addition of Millennium’s small-satellite offerings to Boeing’s current portfolio.

When it comes to artificial intelligence, Caret said Boeing will handle data sharing “on an individual basis, depending on what the services, what the country is, what the customer is, and what works best for us collectively.”

Boeing started 2019 on a high note after the Air Force accepted the first KC-46A Pegasus tanker in January after completion of extensive flight tests.

“The KC-46A is a proven, safe, multi-mission aircraft that will transform aerial refueling and mobility operations for decades to come. We look forward to working with the Air Force and the Navy during their initial operational test and evaluation of the KC-46 as we further demonstrate the operational capabilities of this next-generation aircraft across refueling, mobility and combat weapons systems missions,” Caret said.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Leanne Caret and the Boeing defense team for receiving this award.
