Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, senior vice president of government strategy and policy at Inmarsat Government, has said a managed service model for satellite communications can offer advantages for defense agencies in the areas of connectivity, user experience and information security.
"Satcom as a service is an end-to-end fully integrated capability that brings mobile, high-throughput connectivity the way users seek it — easily, affordably, securely and operationally available anytime, anywhere," Cowen-Hirsch wrote in a Via Satellite guest piece published Wednesday.
She said the approach will allow users to connect when they perform missions across land, air and sea domains via a “plug in†application and can provide a mobile wideband experience by minimizing administration and troubleshooting work compared with legacy fixed satcom platforms.
Cowen-Hirsch added that managed service providers aim to protect internal data and help clients address security requirements.
