Jeffrey Neal, a senior vice president at ICF, told Government Matters in an interview posted Sunday that he believes the next Office of Personnel Management director should increase the agency's focus on efforts to address challenges federal employees face.
He said that hiring federal staff has been challenging as more people in the workforce become eligible for retirement.
President Donald Trump announced last week he would nominate Dale Cabaniss, a former chairman of the Federal Labor Relations Authority, to serve a four-year term as OPM chief. Cabaniss spent more than two decades in the Senate and oversaw civil service issues on the Governmental Affairs and Appropriations Committees.
“I hope she is spending more time on policy issues and on the needs of the workforce than the inside baseball issue of where a particular part of OPM might sit next year,†Neal added.
