Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Dave Levy, vice president of federal government at Amazon Web Services, as an inductee into the 2019 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of the most influential voices in the government contracting arena. This is his second consecutive Wash100 award.
Prior to joining Amazon in May 2017, Levy spent more than a decade at Apple, where he served as head of U.S. government sales.
In September 2018, the Office of Management and Budget issued a new draft strategy that aims to help federal agencies facilitate the adoption of cloud platforms in support of their mission requirements. The following month Levy submitted a written response to Suzette Kent, the federal chief information officer and a fellow 2019 Wash100 winner, with regard to the Cloud Smart Strategy proposal.
Levy said OMB should align the strategy with the “IT Modernization Report†to emphasize the government’s vision to secure and deliver citizen services and to show that Amazon supports the move to integrate the CIO Council’s procurement, workforce and security action items into the draft policy.
“We commend the inclusion of CIO Council Actions and believe that these initiatives will greatly reduce barriers to cloud adoption across government,†Levy wrote.
Amazon entered into several partnerships in 2018, including collaboration with SAP National Security Services, to deliver to customers services and tools that help migrate data workloads to the cloud.
“We continue to see our public sector customers move more critical workloads and applications to the cloud, and this collaboration is one way in which we can further support them, delivering on the tools and services they’ve requested,†Levy said.
AWS and Eastern Foundry announced plans to host a hackathon to help the Small Business Administration address challenges in disaster response for small businesses in November 2018.
“The event is a great way to foster innovation within the small business community and allow our region’s top tech talent to showcase new ideas,†Levy noted.
The company also certified Enlighten IT Consulting as a cloud managed service provider in October 2018.
“Our government customers are seeking solutions allowing them to perform their missions better, faster and more securely,†Levy said. “Enlighten’s [Rapid Analytic Deployment and Management Framework] managed service on AWS GovCloud does just that by providing critical big data and cyber capabilities for the defense community.â€
In June 2018, AWS and VMware unveiled a hybrid cloud service designed to help government agencies accelerate the migration of applications to the cloud and securely manage workloads through a common infrastructure.
“By extending our commitment to offer VMware Cloud on AWS GovCloud (US), agencies will be able leverage the benefits of the cloud to help lower costs, improve efficiency and comply with federal mandates,†Levy told GovConDaily.
Executive Mosaic congratulates Dave Levy and the AWS team for their receipt of this award.
