Boeing has donated $3M to support the establishment of an annual scholarship program for pilot and aviation maintenance training at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

The investment seeks to address training and certification costs for annual scholarships and increase the number of enrollees from female, veteran and underrepresented communities, the company said Thursday.

“It’s essential that industry and higher education work together to increase the pipeline of aerospace talent,” said Dennis Muilenburg, president, CEO and chairman at Boeing.

The aerospace industry will require 790K new commercial pilots and 754K new maintenance workers to keep planes flying for the next two decades, according the company’s “2018 Pilot and Technician Outlook” report.

During 2018, the Chicago-based firm contributed a total of $284M to community development projects.
