Battelle to Award $50K in STEM Grants to FCPS Teachers

The Battelle National Biodefense Institute has announced plans to award $50K in grants to selected teachers from the Frederick County Public Schools in Maryland as part of a science, technology, engineering and math challenge initiative.

Interested applicants have until April 25 to send their grant applications. They are also invited to participate in an online grant-writing workshop to help the teachers come up with ideas for their submissions, Battelle said Tuesday.

Battelle will recognize the winning applicants at the FCPS Board of Education meeting on May 22.

“Once again FCPS teachers and students will have the opportunity to develop and submit their best STEM education ideas,” said George Korch, president at BNBI.

FCPS and Battelle developed their STEM initiative in 2009 to prepare and encourage students who are interested to take STEM programs in college. The non-profit company recognized 13 proposals out of 28 grant applications from FCPS teachers and students from different schools in 2018.
