AECOM‘s energy and construction business will continue efforts to replace a river navigation lock system in Chattanooga, Tenn., under a $59.6M contract modification from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The modification extends the performance of work on the Chickamauga Lock Chamber replacement project through Nov. 14, 2020, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
USACE operates the lock for the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The project aims to address structural issues that may lead to the transportation system’s closure.
Upstream of the lock system encompasses 318 miles of navigable waterway for transporting materials from and to TVA facilities, industries and Department of Energy facilities at Oak Ridge.
