Vision Technologies Systems' shipbuilding arm has received a $39.8M contract option to design and build an additional barracks barge for the U.S. Navy.

VT Halter Marine will construct the first of four additional Auxiliary Personnel Lighter–Small platforms in the military service's new class of berthing barges, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

The initial contract covered detail design and construction work on the lead and second APL(S) 67-class craft. The deal includes options for the provision of associated design support, deployment spare parts, production-level technical data package, crew familiarization and international delivery services.

Fifty-nine percent of work will occur in Pascagoula, Miss. and the remaining 42 percent will take place at various locations in Louisiana, Florida, Massachusetts and Mississipi.
