The U.S. Marine Corps has asked industry to submit ideas on how to develop a weapons system that would hit targets at a range surpassing that of systems being used by organic infantry units.
USMC said Friday the OPF-M office expects to commence the development phase next year and wants the initial platform to consist of various subsystems such as a vehicle-launched loitering aerial munition, a digital command-and-control system and an aerial reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition technology.
