Tony Bogovic, vice president of advanced consulting and engineering at Perspecta Labs, has said government agencies and companies should implement strategies to protect and defend network infrastructure against distributed denial-of-service attacks and other cyber threats.

Bogovic wrote in an article published Tuesday on Fifth Domain that one of the strategies agencies could adopt is to disperse or decentralize high-value information assets and servers that are being targeted by threat actors.

Deceptive defense is another strategy agencies could do to safeguard data infrastructure from DDoS attackers and other adversaries.

“One the best ways to defend against a predator is to trick them,” Bogovic noted.

“Through game-theory planning, real-time analytics and sophisticated network maneuvering, adversary attack activity can be tracked, and appropriate counter maneuvers can be implemented,” he added.

Bogovic also discussed how sensors could help organizations mitigate zero-day precision attacks and other vulnerabilities.

“With high fidelity sensors, organizations can quickly detect potential malicious activity, send an alert that will trigger an investigation and initiate appropriate mitigation responses,” he wrote.
