Microsoft and partner Dell EMC have unveiled a new set of products designed to expand the U.S. government’s capability to share data in remote locations and harsh scenarios.
Microsoft announced Monday the new cloud-based products added to Azure Stack and its Data Box family of products.
Dell partnered with Tracewell Systems to launch the new Tactical Microsoft Azure Stack, a ruggedized, field-deployable product that offers Azure-consistent cloud services to areas with poor network connectivity.
Microsoft also expanded the Azure Data Box with new products that feature artificial intelligence and other capabilities that support secure transfer of data in the field.
The list includes Azure Data Box Edge, Azure Data Box Gateway, Azure Data Box Disk and Azure Data Box Heavy, which will all be available in mid-2019.
“From supporting military and humanitarian missions to the needs of the U.S. State Department or other U.S government organizations, these new systems offer unprecedented opportunities to expedite decision making and bring the power of cloud to areas far beyond the reach of a traditional datacenter,†said Tad Brockway, general manager for Azure Storage and Azure Stack at Microsoft.
