Lockheed Martin has opened its Cyber Innovation Lab at the University of Central Florida to help address a growing demand for cybersecurity professionals.

The company said Friday it donated $1.5M to equip the 970-square-foot facility with software and technology platforms and pledged to offer cyber training and mentoring services to UCF’s engineering students.

“By working with institutions like UCF, through labs like this one, we’ll all better understand and accelerate our shared capabilities and potential to adapt and innovate in the fifth domain,” said Stephanie Hill, deputy executive vice president of Lockheed’s rotary and mission systems business.

More than 350 participating students across the university’s cyber programs as well as its Collegiate Cyber Defense Club, or Hack@UCF, can use the space as their primary practice center.

Lockheed currently employs nearly 2,500 UCF graduates in Orlando and seeks to attract more cyber talent in the region.
