Lockheed Martin has opened a $50M research-and-development facility in Orlando, Fla., that will house engineering, business and program management activities in support of its missiles and fire control segment.
The company said Wednesday it expects the 255K-square-foot building to create hundreds of jobs in the area within three to five years.
“The Research & Development II facility expands our robust Florida presence and fosters significant opportunities for collaboration and innovation among our employees,†said Frank St. John, an executive vice president at Lockheed.
“We will continue our strong partnerships with local and state governments, community partners and area universities to grow our business, our workforce and the critical capabilities we provide to customers worldwide,” he added.
The defense contractor has created more than a thousand positions since 2017 to support the six-storey facility as well as other operations in Orlando, including the company’s rotary and mission systems division.
