Hughes Network Systems has demonstrated a new artificial intelligence-based enterprise management and control tool that supports interoperability between different satellite communications systems, National Defense Magazine reported Monday.
The Germantown, Md.-based satellite internet service provider presented its flexible modem interface software to top U.S. military officials in December.
The demonstration was part of an Air Force program seeking new tools that would increase interoperability of new and existing technologies across the service.
Hughes’ FMI tool uses AI to understand human-curated regulations to make decisions.
“It basically would know about what is going around that terminal,†said Rajeev Gopal, senior technical director of advanced systems at Hughes.
He added AI allows the FMI to know the available satellites, service providers and modems for communications.
Gopal said the technology could give the Air Force a more resilient, affordable and widely available satellite communication.
