Gordon Nelson, chief data innovation adviser at Hitachi Vantara Federal, has said agencies should consider end user input and experience, datasets and modern technology when creating and implementing a data analytics strategy.

nn

He wrote in a GCN guest piece published Thursday that such strategy should incorporate feedback or requirements of end users who depend on insight from data analytics.

nn

“Clearly defining how, when, why and in what form decision-makers need the information… will give immediate and tangible metrics to the end results and, ultimately, enhance support of the agency's mission,” Nelson said.

nn

He added agencies need to simplify datasets to help analysts determine potential flaws and risks.

nn

The use of new technology platforms could also aid agencies in intelligence delivery efforts by increasing flexibility to meet the requirements of the changing data landscape, according to Nelson.

nn

“Combining the right tools and skill sets enhances the ability to accurately interpret the data and allows it to be packaged so the end user gains timely, maximum value."
