Huntington Ingalls Industries has handed over the USS Paul Ignatius (DDG 117) Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to the U.S. Navy.

HII said Friday its Ingalls Shipbuilding division officially transferred responsibility over the ship to the military service with the signing of the DD 250 delivery document.

The vessel is named after the 59th Navy secretary and is scheduled to launch from the company's shipyard in June.

“This event is the culmination of hard work and dedication by thousands of shipbuilders, industry partners from nearly every state, as well as our Navy SUPSHIP Gulf Coast shipmates who worked with us each and every day to ensure DDG 117 became a mission-capable ship,” said George Nungesser, DDG program manager at HII.

The document signing marks HII's 31st Arleigh Burke-class ship delivery to the Navy.

The company is currently working on four DDG ships, including the first Flight III vessel that kicked off the fabrication phase in May 2018 – USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125).
