HawkEye 360 has begun efforts to identify and locate radio frequency signals from space through a cluster of three newly commissioned small satellites.

The company said Tuesday its Pathfinder satellites are built to determine the geographical origin of multiple RF signals and that data allows HawkEye 360 to help customers obtain new insights for emergency response, maritime and spectrum analysis efforts.

Data from the Pathfinder mission can offer law enforcement personnel visibility into suspicious vessel movement or aid search-and-rescue teams through geolocation of emergency beacons, the company added.

The firm’s satellites worked to geolocate marine radar, EPIRB and AIS signals as well as VHF channels 16 and 70 during initial tests.

HawkEye 360 seeks to facilitate data verification and strategic demonstration efforts with select clients as part of the Pathfinder mission and incorporate potential updates into the company’s next batch of satellites, scheduled for launch later this year.
