Boeing and France-based Safran have unveiled a new joint venture to design, develop and service auxiliary power units or engines used to start aircraft and related systems while on the ground.
Etienne Boisseau will serve as CEO of the new JV, Initium Aerospace, which will operate in San Diego to build APUs in collaboration with Boeing and Safran teams on production and engineering, Boeing said Wednesday.
Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing’s global services business, said the new JV seeks to reflect Boeing’s efforts to make strategic investments to build up vertical capabilities and broaden its services portfolio.
Initium Aerospace will combine Boeing’s aircraft and client knowledge with Safran’s propulsion system design and manufacturing experience.
Safran and Boeing secured antitrust and regulatory clearances in November to form the new JV.
