BAE Wants to Bid for Army’s Cold Weather Vehicle Replacement Program

BAE Systems looks to compete for a proposed program to replace the U.S. Army’s small unit support vehicles in Alaska and other areas in the Arctic region, National Defense Magazine reported Wednesday.

Keith Klemmer, director of business development for the National Guard for combat vehicles at BAE, said the company plans to offer its Beowulf and BvS10 vehicles as potential replacements for the SUSV, an amphibious platform built to travel through snow, swamps, mud and other rough terrain environments.

Beowulf is designed to go up slopes up to 45 degrees at a speed of up to 40 miles per hour and range of up to 620 miles, while BvS10 is built to operate in small spaces.

DoD said in a recent business case analysis for the SUSV program that funding for the new vehicles would be part of the objective memorandum for 2020 to 2024, according to the Senate’s version of the fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act.

Congress noted the Air Force and Marine Corps might also procure the new vehicles, according to the report.
