BAE Systems and the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology organization have partnered to introduce a nationwide program with the goal of increasing career opportunitions for high-school seniors in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
The company said Tuesday it will sponsor the FIRST Robotics Scholarship and Internship Program and award up to $40M to eight engineering and technology students, with each grantee receiving $5K funds incrementally over four years.
Selected students can also work at BAE through a three-month paid summer internship that will explose then to various programs and projects across the company.
BAE will award the scholarship grants annually beginning in May of this year and select recipients from previous participants of FIRST’s robotics and technology contests.
FIRST has received donations worth more than $9M from the company to date. The organization creates mentor-based research and robotics programs designed to help build students’ STEM skills.
