The U.S. Army is conducting market research on cloud computing services to support the transition of its information technology operations into a commecial cloud infrastructure.

The Army seeks information on vendors that can help migrate IT capabilities, including 154 Army Human Resources Command applications, as part of the service branch’s inital implementation of the Enterprise Computing Environment, according to FedBizOpps notice released Thursday.

The request for information noted that the Army’s Cybersecurity Service Provider can currently support commercial cloud environments such as Microsoft’s Azure platform and Amazon Web Services.

Data covered by the cloud transition falls under the Department of Defense’s impact levels 2 and 4.

According to the RFI, the Army aims to reduce the need for “traditional” IT services and only migrate enterprise and non-legacy applications.
